ABATTOIR FACILITY
Salt Spring Island, British Columbia
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This commercial construction project expanded the Salt Spring Island Abattoir facility with a 12 × 27 foot addition designed to support the organization’s growing operations.
The new space functions as the facility’s cut and wrapping room — the final stage before meat products are packaged for distribution. Because the facility operates as a non-profit on leased land, the addition was designed using removable engineered footings and durable materials that allow the structure to be relocated if required.
HIGHLIGHTS
This addition created a dedicated food-processing space that significantly improved the safety, efficiency, and quality of the facility’s operations. Prior to the expansion, the organization lacked a suitable area for this stage of production. The project demonstrates Plewman Construction’s ability to deliver specialized construction solutions that meet both operational requirements and unique site constraints.
