WILLOCK COTTAGE
Salt Spring Island, British Columbia
PROJECT OVERVIEW
As a custom home builder on Salt Spring Island, Plewman Construction completed Willock Cottage as a compact, highly efficient residence designed for multi-generational living on a family property. The project included full project management and coordination of construction and trades for the 600 sq ft cottage, featuring a slab-on-grade foundation and a one-bedroom, one-bathroom layout.
The client engaged Lahni Wickland (Drafting and Design) to develop the construction drawings, along with Amber Jordan for interior design, supporting a cohesive approach from planning through to finishing.
The cottage was designed to meet or exceed BC Energy Step Code Level 5 and incorporates advanced energy systems including solar panels, battery backup, and grid-tied energy production. The result is a durable, energy-efficient home that supports long-term sustainability while providing a comfortable and private living space alongside the main residence.
HIGHLIGHTS
Willock Cottage demonstrates how smaller homes can achieve high levels of energy performance and long-term sustainability. The project integrates renewable energy systems and advanced building standards while maintaining an efficient eight-month construction timeline.
